JMA Khardal Hasana

JMA Khardal Hasana (Janaza Fund)

Alhamdulillah, Jaffna Muslim Association has launched the Khardal Hasana (JMA-KH) project in the United Kingdom. The aim of this project is to assist Sri Lankan Muslims in making the process of Janaza as easy as possible by providing financial support from the collected funds.

Why?

Essentially, this project aims to provide the required immediate funds to fulfil the Janaza rituals in the event of death thereby relieving pain and some of the stress associated with losing a family member.

Each area requires certain amount of money (£2000-£4000 approximately) per Janaza to complete the ‘Janaza rituals’. Sometimes families can’t immediately afford the Janaza money in the event of sudden death. The JMA Khardal Hasana immediate fund will help to accomplish Janaza formalities (as well as being a kind of sadaqah jariyah ) and provide some relief to the families allowing them the time to grieve.

How?

There will be a membership fee of £300 per member. The required fund will be released immediately in event of a death in order to fulfil the Janaza rituals.

On the occasion that a person passes away and the deceased person’s family cannot afford the Janaza completely, all members will contribute an amount to bring the total amount of money in the fund back to its original amount.

For Example:

  • If there are 100 members who all contribute £300, there will be £30,000 in the fund in total.
  • When a person passes away and their funeral costs £3000. If the family cannot afford this cost, this fund will be released by JMA Khadrul Hasana immediately. After this expense JMA KH’s account will have £27000.
  • Therefore, all of the 100 members contribute £30 each back to the fund, a total of £3000 will be reimbursed, bringing the remainder of £27000 in the fund back up to the original amount of £30,000.
  • For some reason, if any member or a member from the affected family wants to contribute more than the expected amount (eg £530), we will add this to our account. This will increase fund in the holding account (£30,500).

However, if the family prefers to pay the cost of the Janaza back, they are welcome to pay that money back to the fund in order to comply with Islamic Funeral Law and so that members of this project don’t have to balance the money back to the original amount.

“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them.” (hadith of the Prophet , narrated by Muslim)

On-going charity – sadaqah jariyah – is one of the most valuable acts we can do in this life as it continues benefitting us in the next, even after we have left the earth.
We hope you all choose to contribute to this fund.

Jazakallah Khair,

JMA TEAM
